Cranes

We have been doing a bit of spring cleaning today, so only managed to pop out for an hour in the afternoon.

Beautiful light today and blue skies. This is a view looking across to the cranes at the Inchgreen Drydock in Greenock. I love how the moon is sitting above these giant creatures.

Inchgreen Dry Dock (Garvel Drydock) built in 1962-1964 by the Firth of Clyde Dry Dock Company Ltd. At the time, it was one of the largest dry docks in the world, measuring 1,000 feet long, 145 feet wide, with a depth of 50 feet, designed to accommodate ships of up to 150,000 tons deadweight. The liner Queen Mary was used as a guide during its design. The Drydock cost £4.25 million to build.

I remember in 1965 when the Queen Elizabeth came in for a refit they had to make a modification to the dock so she could fit in.
