Home from the sea, Oneriver part 2
We went to the Marina on the way to Morrisons today so that I could get a blip for the Oneriver project.
Inverness Marina is at the mouth of the River Ness and was opened in 2008.It is partly built from the dredged up bottom of the River Ness. It took six years to plan with a cost of nine million pounds. Further developments are planned including a hotel, seafood restaurant and retail units.
The 150 berth marina held a wide range of boats today from a wide variety of yachts to the two lifeboats at the front of the frame. The RNLB 17-13 Roger and Joy Freeman is a Severn Class Rescue Boat part of the relief fleet with a top speed of 25 knots which has been in service since 2002.The fleet are named after the River Seven ,the longest river in Great Britain.
The other lifeboat is the RNLI 14-21 Macquaire another member of the relief fleet, a Trent class lifeboat built in 1997.also with a speed of 25 knots.
There seem to be quite a few different lifeboats that have been moored in the Inverness Marina as seen on a few other local blippers blips throughtout the years !
I also saw the new lifeboat that has just arrived at the North Kessock lifeboat station out on the water. The new RNLI Atlantic 85 lifeboat the Robert and Isobel Mowat, arrived all the way from Cowes on Wednesday .It's a inshore B class boat that will operate close to shore , in shallower water than the all weather boats , close to cliffs and can even go into caves. The name Atlantic comes from the Atlantic college in Wales where the design was first developed and the 85 is from it's length of 8'5.
This SONG seemed rather appropriate after the storms lately and all the hard work from the RNLI
