The Face Of Helios.

Using the same binoculars as I did to see the surface of the Moon yesterday, I took advantage in the lull in the wintry weather to indulge in a bit of lunchtime solar astronomy by trying to photograph the giant sunspot group AR1944 currently dominating the bright and turbulent surface of our Sun.

Caused by huge magnetic fields erupting from the Sun's interior, this complex group of sunspots is one of the largest seen in the past decade, wider than the diameter of the planet Jupiter!
