A Proper Winter Afternoon
The Levels were bathed in golden Winter sunlight this afternoon, making both sky and the lakes on the Nature Reserve a deep blue, and with the wind having finally subsided, there was a wealth of reflection on the waters and a wealth of blipping choice: a pair of herons wheeling and cawing above the reedbeds, golden branches reflected in the rhines, a strange watercraft dredging up the dead reeds - but I couldn't resist these tree skeletons.
Cycling back there was the odd wisp and scent of woodsmoke, a hint of wintry crispness in the air. Wonderful!
