Life in a Northern Town

Corn Exchange fish-eye

I have had a fab morning.

First of all I've done all my work for this week so I was free to do housework. So I went to Leeds instead.

I spoke to the nice people at North America Travel and finalised our trip to the USA this summer. Then I had breakfast at Harvey Nicholls. I popped down to the Corn Exchange, all prepared with the fish-eye attachment - it's not the best quality but I like the effect. There are some more here. A large bag of Hershey's Kisses was obtained - woo hoo - and I bought my daughter's birthday present.

Meanwhile, my friend Simon was texting me - he is a fellow space geek, works for the BBC and has managed to get himself working on Stargazing Live (well gel innit). He was texting photos of himself with the astronauts from last night's show (I was pretending to be happy for him when I was in fact consumed with jealousy) - then he sent me this - it does say "greeting from Saturn" not "satan", and Carolyn Porco is the scientist responsible for the imaging on Voyager, Cassini and the current mission to Pluto. I think you might call her an extreme photographer.

So apart from a very unsuccessful visit to a certain camera shop, where the staff were not interested in serving me (Amazon here we come), it was a great morning. Plus the M62 behaved itself and I drove home with rainbows framing West Yorkshire.

Oh, and last but not least, Happy 70th Birthday to Jimmy Page, Rock and Roll.
