RV Katha Pandaw
Met up with the other 23 people on our trip and drove by coached for 6 hours across the delta of the River Irrawaddy to join our boat at the bottom of the navigable river in Prome (now called Pyay).
The RV Katha Pandaw is a newly built copy of an old teak and brass flat bottomed river steamer. The River Irrawaddy is the main highway of the country, which has few good roads. It rises in the melt waters off the high mountains in Tibet, but quickly becomes a wide, shallow river running down the centre of the country. Our boat had a shallow draft to enable it to sail along most of the length of the river without getting caught on sandbars.
More photos on my blog, scroll down to 20th December.
