Nandina Domestica
We have a new roommate in the basement unit; a visiting scholar from China named Susan. Well, that's not her real name, but since her real name is unpronounceable to English speakers, she chose Susan as her English name. The place morphs from tenant to tenant; Susan makes it clean, elegant, open, and uncluttered.
She put some Nandina in a vase in her studio, and it made me realize that despite its' showy and festive look, I never though of it as a decorative plant. There is something to be said for going Somewhere Else and seeing it with "new" eyes...
