Tolbooth Steeple, Glasgow Cross

The Tolbooth used to be a stall at Glasgow Cross where tolls and taxes were collected. In 1636 a combined town hall and prison was built. The jail was known as "The Tontine" and features in "Rob Roy" by Sir Walter Scott. Now all that remains is this seven storey, 126 feet high steeple.

Today, at this meeting point of five roads, the traffic still has to stream around the building.
