Camels fording a river

Lovely sunny day again and the Monsoon Palace showed up through the mist on the far side of the lake. What a lot of effort it must have taken to transfer the royal family up there by elephant and to take all their goods and chattels for the summer. Then it was off to the countryside with my favourite rickshaw wallah to take photos of brick making (marvellous to get out of the city into fresh air). First we dropped by the wholesale vegetable market which is much less stressful than the one in Delhi and after that we visited four different brick making sites. It is such a huge manual effort and the places we visited showed slightly different ways of actually firing the bricks so you'll have to look at the link to understand. We passed huge chemical plants, some making phosphates and came back a different way past a lake where there were hundreds of herons of different dimensions and several other birds that I can't name and finally finished up at the Maharajah of Udaipur's 'Cenotaphs' – memorials to 371 rulers. I couldn't make out whether the wives also had memorials but there was no tradition to commit suttee on their husband's pyres.
