Farewell Charlie
Backblipped January 2014
I know from my records that this was the last picture of Charlie, my very first rat. Really, of course, he was one of my first pair, but since his name came before Moses's in the alphabet, I signed the adoption form for him first, so he was rat number 1. Back then I knew him as "the brown one" - I later discovered he was an agouti berkshire!
He was a brilliant boy, and shortly after this picture was taken we took him to the vet. He lost consciousness in the waiting room, and needed only a very little help to depart this life.
Funny how some days I wouldn't have a clue what the picture was about, but I can still remember that morning, even well over a year after the event.
Charlie was an epic rat - I taught him to run up and down my arm, pausing at the elbow to pick up treats. He was a real shoulder rat, who took care of me when I was ill, and adored watching the world from sputniks and hammocks!
Still miss him, but have so many happy memories, and am still amazed at what he and Mo started.
Lovely to remember him!
