Ashmolean
Being in Oxford, we thought we should take in some 'culture'. We were advised that the Ashmolean museum was a good place to spend a bit of time on a very cold, wet Sunday in January.
Due to my over-indulgence of the previous night we headed straight for the rather beautiful upstairs roof terrace café (sorry, Dining Room). We were directed to deliciously comfortable old fashioned arm chairs, and had coffee & cakes. We did manage to stay alert enough to look at the West meets East exhibition, which was interesting, with some beautiful artefacts.
However, in the 'Dining Room' were a series of these beautiful silvered glass jars - this one was used to transport thyme from the USA to wherever.
I would have liked to be able to fall asleep in the armchair, but it isn't really that kind of place ! I think the rather posh and well-produced Italian manager would have (in a very gentlemanly way) moved us on....
