And a Parr-o-o-t in a Pear Tree....

After failing to get a decent shot of Southern Lapwings, a hawk and a streaked Flycatcher, I was alerted to parrots in the pear tree by a small pear landing on the porch roof, rolling across the verandah and plopping onto the lawn. Normally, their squawking and screeching would have alerted me. Popped out and spotted the chap in the photo, who stuck around long enough for a quick shot. It took HH to point out that only a flying pear could have landed on the roof, as the tree is at some distance, and that another ambitious parrot must have wanted his dinner to go.

Scorching hot all day, Rio must be an inferno - even here the temperatures have been as high as 38 C (100.4 F) this week. Beautiful now, in the shade, with a little breeze and the lovely, golden evening light.
