The times they are a changin'
While Leith's spreading gentrification is evidenced in made-over pubs (when the Marksman goes, we'll start throwing potatoes), the bastion of the Foot of the Walk lives on. Ok, it's a Wetherspoon's, but it's a dimension or two away from George Street; it breathes its location in the deep south of Leith. Maybe it too is changing however: now they do gourmet burgers, served on rectangular plates (the standard cheapo burger is whacked on a common-as-muck round one). But for just over 20 quid for three burgers and chips - mine with timeless bacon and cheese supplement - a best-not-to-ask-questions 'stilton' sauce - and a round of Strongbow and blackcurrant (NO EXTRA CHARGE), one feels inclined to suggest that one could fork out double that in gentrified alternatives. And you get to select your own choice of condiments.
