Verse for 2014

Being the first Sunday or 2014 we considered our church verse for 2014. Luke 11:1. A request 1) made in response to the prayer life of Jesus; 2) made by disciples of Jesus; and 3) made possible by the cross of Jesus.
Lord teach me how to pray.

We learned an old hymn to a new tune

Prayer is the soul's sincere desire,
Expressed in thought or word
The burning of a hidden fire,
A longing for the Lord.

Prayer is the simplest sound we teach
When children learn God's Name;
And yet ii is the noblest speech
That human lips can frame.

Lord, teach us how to pray;
Help us daily words to say.
Lord, teach us how to pray;
To depend on you each day

Prayer is the contrite sinners voice,
Returning from His ways.
While angels in their songs rejoice
And cry "Behold, he prays!"

Prayer is the secret battleground
Where victories are won,
By prayer the will of God is found
And work for Him begun.

Prayer is the Christian's vital breath,
The Christian's native air,
Our watchword at the gates of death;
We enter heaven with prayer.

Jesus, by whom we come to God -
The Life, the Truth, the way -
The humble path of prayer You trod;
