A Japanese Feast

I was invited to join friends (Ann & Baxter) for lunch at YummyTori today, as I have never eaten Japanese food before I was quite excited to try it (if a little apprehensive about using chopsticks! I've failed to use them on only a couple occasions before!), they specialise in "Yakitori" & "Japanese Tapas", so no sushi, a bit of a shame as I would have liked to try some.

From front to back there is "Yakiniku Beef" (with sliced onions in special Black Pepper Sauce), "Miso Soup" (Soya Based soup with wakame, tofu and spring onions) "Takoyaki" (Fried Octopus Dumpling Balls), "Teriyaki Chicken" (Pan Fried Chicken in Teriyaki Sauce), another "Yakiniku Beef" (the one with the green "stuff", err I thinks it's called lettuce), "Ninniku Cha-han" (Garlic Fried Rice) and "Tonkatsu" (Crispy Pork with original Tonkatsu Sauce).

I had the Beef, Fried Octopus Dumplings, Miso Soup as well as "Wasabi Prawns" (pictured in my BlipFolio) as well as a Sake Tsting Board (also pictured in my Blipfolio). It was all very tasty, I was a little disappointed in the beef which was nice but a little lacking it could have done with a stronger pepper sauce in my opinion, the Wasabi Prawns were also a surprise, the mayonnaise was rather sweet and not spicy at all as I would have expected from Wasabi, they were delicious however. The Fried Octopus Dumplings were lovely and juicy, not at all what I expected. The Soup was nice, I bit "light" for my taste but made for a nice accompaniment with the other food (everything came as it was ready so no set "courses").

All in all it was very nice and I'll hopefully have the opportunity to return sometime, after the meal we retired to The Hanging Bat or a few beers, a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon (even if certain friends did not show up as arranged!).
