Learning curve

Santa gave me late present yesterday, when I cashed gift token at local camera shop.
I bought Canon Speedlite 430EX II, since I haven't got decent bolt yet.
It's fun fun fun try to learn use it.
This is one of my first try outs... autch! ;)
I may need all help I can get with it, so any hints?

Thank you for comments and stars regarding my snowy shot yesterday. It was one day wonder, all snow is gone now and its raining again.
