Castle Fraser, the 'Flight Pond'.

Was it given that name because they shot duck as they flew over the water?
Or because in the 18th century a kitchen maid was 'badly treated' by the son of the Family and drowned in the pond during her flight? (A melodramatic and melancholy thought with no basis in fact — perhaps induced by memories of Downton Abbey?)

In fact it is a most peaceful part of a really lovely 3/4 of a mile walk through the woods. Good in summer for dragonflies… When we reached the pond the sun had gone and left us with a plain grey sky. But we can come back again (only 10 miles from home).
