Getting ready to go? Not quite yet

Eastern Bar tailed godwits at the Avon Heathcote estuary.

About mid March they will leave for the Northern Hemisphere and one of the longest bird migrations in the world, so at the moment they are fattening up for the long flight.

Very high tide so lots of birds roosting. As I drove down the road I realised the road was flooded - presumably by the high tide - if I lived out there I think it would make me feel rather nervous. It's all changed since the quakes and the erosion is really bad, must be very worrying for those who have no choice but to stay since they've been green zoned.
