Unquiet slumbers

The more we've thought about moving, the more of this Surrey heathland we've discovered. The heights here were positively wuthering this morning with all kinds of weather blasting across them, from bright sunshine and blue sky to torrential rain and thunder. It felt almost northern. I managed to grab a walk between the squalls. My kind of weather.

On a good day you can see Kate Bush from here.

Or if you prefer: Unquiet slumbers.

NB: On a good day many years ago you might have seen Peter Gabriel, former front man of Genesis, from here as this is looking in the general direction of Godalming where he was a pupil at Charterhouse (he comes from Chobham). He's collaborated with Kate Bush many times. Wind and Wuthering that supplied that track, however, was the first Genesis album to be produced since he split from the band.

"I lingered round them, under that benign sky; watched the moths fluttering among the heath, and hare-bells; listened to the soft wind breathing through the grass; and wondered how anyone could ever imagine unquiet slumbers, for the sleepers in that quiet earth."

The closing line of Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.

And the best one for shaking off those slumbers.

Oh and something practical added as an afterthought - a useful photography info link.
