St Peter's Seminary, Cardross
Decided to get up early today and go check out this old ruin that's been in the news lots recently.
Not so much a photography expedition today - more like breaking and entry!
This old building is a disused Roman Catholic seminary near Cardross, Scotland. Designed by the firm of Gillespie, Kidd and Coia, it is one of only 42 post-war buildings in Scotland to be listed at Category A, the highest level of protection for a building of "special architectural or historic interest".
It has been abandoned since the end of the 1980s, and is currently in a ruinous state. Despite a number of proposals for reuse or renovation of the building, its future remains insecure.
The lottery fund has just granted a conservation firm over £500K to develop a plan to save it.
In fairness it's an amazing place. It feels really special in architectural terms. It's also set in a magical location deep in the woods.
Looking around the entire site for a couple of hours, to me, it now seems way beyond repair.
I hope I'm wrong.
