A brief lull...

It's rained a lot in the Lakes. I know its rained a lot everywhere - but when people from the Lake District say it then you know it's been bad. If I had a pound for every time I've heard "if it didn't rain we wouldn't have the Lakes" then, well, I'd have ..several more pounds than I do now.
For the first time in a long while we were actually rained off on Monday - we simply couldn't drive to the hills - our local roads were under 6" of water (& a lot more in places) and after 2 hours we'd made 15 minutes worth of progress - with the rain still pouring & the waters rising higher we called it a day.
Places I know well, places that are fields and summer meadows are now pools, ponds and lakes. New streams wend their ways down hillsides that should be dry and most footpath's look like ghyll's.
Today has seen a brief lull in the storms that are forecast to return - but with the ground saturated the flooding mostly remains. Sometimes you have to look hard to find the beauty in this sort of weather - and sometimes it's just there, swimming* along in a farmers field.

* I don't know if swans swim, glide or simply float.
