My Jumping Daughter
Part of our New Year's tradition, besides the fireworks on the beach (see yesterday's entry) is something my daughter brought back from her exchange trip to Brazil. Seven waves for seven wishes is something she picked up on her year long Rotary Exchange and it is something we have been doing every year since. I think this would be hard in more northern climes, but here in the temperate environment of Mexico it is a perfect tradition to carry on. At midnight, or in this case shortly afterwards, she jumps seven waves and makes seven wishes. Just like with a birthday cake, no one but the wisher knows what those wishes are, but they supposedly come true throughout the year. Judging by her charmed life, I can only believe that is true.
