Not alone in being alone

The weather was dry for a short while this morning so I took myself off to the RSPB reserve at Mersehead. Really I just wanted a walk along the beach, the birds were a bonus. 35000 Barnacle geese overwinter on the Solway and a lot of them are on the merse here, barking like dogs.

The sea was at high tide, quite wild, and I had the beach to myself. I was dead chuffed to spot this message in a bottle, I've always wanted to find one. It was well wrapped up, sealed with a kind of pink Artex which I removed with my penknife. The letter wasn't from Robinson Crusoe or even Sting, but from someone called a Waverider. If I want to find out where the bottle was launched, I have to email him/her. Should I? There was also a small paper twist of seeds, looked like wild bird food...

On my way home now in the pouring rain.
