College football
As I mentioned yesterday, we were up at Miami University (Oxford Ohio) today. We were invited to a tailgate party hosted by TBS (Tau Beta Sigma), the band sorority that Laura is in. By necessity it was a fairly short event, as they were at practice until about 10.40, then had to leave no later than 11.30 to go change and perform a pre-game show at 12 noon - the game was at 1pm. We arrived in Oxford at 10.15 and went first to pick up the tickets for the evening's Bill Cosby show, thinking we should just have time to get to the tailgate area for 10.45. What we hadnt allowed for though, was the crowds that would come up from Cincinnati to support the University of Cincinnati team, and when we got near the stadium the traffic was dreadful, and the parking area was already full, so we had to continue (slowly) to the overflow parking area (a field) and then walk back (uphill!) to the tailgate area. By the time we got there, some of the band people were already leaving to get changed. We just had time to give Laura a hug, exchange a few words as she finished eating, then she was off! We managed to eat and talk to a few other parents before going down for the pre-game show. As expected, UC won, but at least Miami did manage to score a couple of touchdowns. I've shown the Miami band several times before, so today I decided to show some of the UC cheerleaders, who are apparently amongst the top teams in the country, and always fun to watch. Our son, Philip, had played in the UC Marching band for a couple of years, so we have seen them a number of times. After the game, we went back (at a snail's pace) back to Laura's dorm, so she could shower and change, and Roger went to rescue our car from the field, and park it at the hall ready for the evenings performance. By this time there wasn't really time to eat before the show, so we just caught a quick bite to keep us going on the way to the Cosby show, which was great fun. He had to be helped up onto the stage, as apparently as he went on to explain in his unique way, he had just had cataract surgery a week ago! By the time we'd eaten after the game, and got home, it was 1am, but it had been a fun day, and even the weather had coperated - it had been beautiful weather for the game!.
