The horsey South-West of Reno

Took a detour this morning on my way to the gym and took some shots in the early morning light of what defines this area. Animals of course, some cute old farmhouses, the occasional barn, and some beautiful mansions with the background of Mount Rose and its ski runs on one side and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada on the other. As this (originally agricultural but now fully integrated into the city limits) area still has a lot of meadows and open surfaces, it offers always an interesting drive, bicycle ride or walk. Narrow streets, no big parking lots, still lots of "perfumes" of the animals, but also enormous, spacious modern "Macmansion" buildings make always for an interesting time.Look in large and find the horse…
In a way I regret that the downturn of the economy of the last years, when the prices of real estate fell more than 50% in our area, enabled so many "nouveaux riches"
to buy one of these beautiful old farms, tear everything down and build something new there. I will add some pics of these new houses that stick out like a sore thumb later, either here or on Flickr

This picture was chosen by my husband who thought the colors so typical for a Reno winter.

I am overwhelmed by all your lovely and encouraging comments, gratulations, stars and the many hearts for my 100 blip birthday . I must admit, that felt sooo good :-)
And you pushed my little girl to the spotlight already last night before I went to bed and she is still there, smiling at me. That is a first for me!! Thank you so much!

So, back to normal now :-)
