John

Tonight was a special occasion, the annual Lauren-Lucy-John Christmas reunion and pun-off! This year we decided to take the get-together out into the mean streets of Derry, so went for our first night out in our home town in a very very long time.

This slightly blurry figure is John, who is a pretty incredible guy. He was a year below us at school (though as we keep reminding him, he's really not that much younger than us) and was top of his year at pretty much everything. Even though we were in different years there was always a bit of a healthy rivalry between us: anything I would do, he would be sure to do (usually better) the following year.

Since he left school he has studied Physics at Oxford, taught in inner London, worked for the European Space Agency, and now designs jet engines for Rolls Royce, spending 6 month stints in places as glamorous as Singapore, Montreal and... Derby. Despite all the success, he still has an incredible knack for 'forgetting' to bring enough money to coffee/lunch/nights out... :)
