Parting of the red sea

This is a longish exposure shots (12 seconds) taken at Aberdeen beach in November 2013. In Northern Scotland, in the winter months, the sun rises late and stays close to the horizon for the whole day. As a result, some spectacular sunrises and sunsets can be seen. However, these shots with no foreground interest quickly become boring. So I look for material for the foreground, and preferably for the background too, to keep the viewer's eye interested.

In this case the foreground object is a groyne, an installation used to mitigate sand erosion. It creates the sense of a partition in the sea. Hence the title of the shot. I used a long exposure to create a flat calm effect on the water.
