Leafhopper Lattice
I went out in bright sunshine at lunchtime determined to shoot bugs. Not many abroad. Got some nice spiders on a south-facing wall and a characterful ladybird cavorting on Xanthoria lichen amongst some elderberry buds.
I then spotted this tiny leafhopper on the brick. I tickled it to make it jump and it landed on some nice green moss. I thought at first it was a froghopper but then saw the spines on its legs. I think it might be Mocydia crocea.
Leafhoppers are related to cicadas and one of the largest families of plant-feeding insects. There are more leafhopper species worldwide than all species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians combined.
