Can conkers send spiders bonkers?

I've been doing work today so for a break I went up the road to a cafe with my mate Nic. There were loads of conkers around. Nic hates spiders and with the increase in spiders reported in the press, she collected a few conkers to use as a deterrent. Anyway given I'm working the only blip choices were a conker or my pc. The conker won.
