shutting down
The Piece Hall has been called “one of the 40 greatest public squares in the world”. The £19m Piece Hall transformation is an ambitious project to create a vibrant world class heritage attraction in the heart of the North of England.
Repair and conserve
The Piece Hall will temporarily close on 16 January 2014 for the work, which will sympathetically repair and conserve this unique building in keeping with its Grade I listing, as well as installing the services needed to ensure that the building meets the demands of the 21st Century. A three-storey extension will also be constructed at the south eastern corner of the building, adjoining the Square Church spire site and Square Chapel.
When the historic gates re-open in Spring 2016, the Piece Hall will have been transformed into a must-visit heritage destination, where you will be able to learn about the history of the building in our Heritage Interpretation Centre; browse the independent shops; relax with a drink with friends in one of our cafes or sit in the beautiful courtyard and simply soak up the atmosphere . There will also be an extensive programme of events and outdoor entertainment throughout the year which will appeal to all tastes and ages.
