Here be Dragons.......
..............but this one is, I think, reasonably harmless!
There seem to be many representations of dragons in this area - they usually indicate some sort of danger - but I have been unable to find out why the connection with this particular area. We have a Turret Dragon on Heckington Church, a Dragon hip tile, a Dragon Fence (both in Sleaford) and modern Dragon book rests in St. Denys' Church in the town.
A lot of Victorian buildings in Sleaford were constructed by Kirk & Parry and their trade symbol was also a Dragon.
This particular Sculpture is on display in one of the empty shops and is about 5ft tall with a Rabbit as company - which I hope it doesn't get eaten by it's companion!
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: David Sharpe is the sculptor of this Dragon and is based in Lincolnshire. He works with both new and recycled metal (such as cutlery, tools and old farm equipment).
A bright, sunny day - the wind has dropped and the thermometer reads 40 Deg.F. which is not bad!
Have a great weekend - and perhaps a quiet one after all the festivities!
Today last year, my image was of a beautiful Snowy Owl
