Towards Chesterton

Last night was our Christmas meal with friends in Cambridge. We met in the Maypole, then went to the Vaults for the meal. The food was ok, but as Mr Pandammonium, in a fit of profoundness, said, we were there for the company, not the food. The company was as entertaining as ever.

We stayed overnight in the new hotel on Newmarket Road. Something of an eyesore, but it's cheap and cheerful, and not too far from town.

This is the view from our window this morning. The chimney you can see is for a big steam engine that used to be used to pump sewage from Cambridge to Milton. Now, it's the steam museum; they still fire up the engine every so often.

We used to live just beyond the museum on the other side of the river.
