Watching and Waiting

Christmas shopping was cancelled today.... Stayed on the shoreline as coasters struggled to make port. In 50 years I have never seen a coaster on the landside of Rockabill... Today was different... .One after the other they came and I sat at the Skerries RLNI station and waited and watched.... Watched children come to see why their dads were not at home helping get ready for Santa. Fathers and mothers putting a brave face on for sons and daughters who sat drinking coffees and teas in the driving rain.... Wives and husbands who came to share the waiting and watching .... The quayside pubs were that bit quieter...the unease dulled the want to celebrate...and earlier tonight the winds have died down and the danger is past and fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, children and grandparents will attend services tonight and tomorrow in thanks the siren stayed silent....just saying
