Scenic detour

We set out for Aberystwyth to visit a friend in hospital and do some last bits and pieces of Christmas shopping. At Machynlleth we were told the road to Aber was blocked by a fallen tree and wouldn't be open until mid to late afternoon. So we decided to take the scenic detour via the mountain road past Llyn Clywedog. This memorial to Wynford Vaughan-Thomas is in a very remote spot giving fantastic views towards the mountains of Southern Snowdonia.

Unfortunately the main road was still closed in the evening when it was time to return home, so we had to make the detour again (though this time on the main roads). Stupidly we didn't think when first faced with the road closure to hop on the train at Machynlleth!
