Conserved Area

This is the entrance to what is a protected area that backs on our property (on the other side). About 9 years ago, Bailey and Acadia (our Labrador Retrievers) and I came on a deer in this area that had just been hit by a car. At least one and maybe more of its legs had been broken. It was SO painful to watch --even if I had not been with the dogs. But they only made me feel worse as they chased the poor thing as it tried , unsuccessfully, to escape; they barked at it without any letup, though they did not physically hurt it. It just was very upsetting; I wanted them to leave it alone so it could die in peace since it would clearly not survive its injuries. I finally got them back home with some difficulty, but I still can remember how badly I felt watching that poor animal struggle with its injuries.
