When Christmas Came Early
It was lovely
that they all came round
and brought wine and presents
and ate the food
we’d prepared.
We had a great time
opening the gifts,
watching their kids play,
chatting about nothing.
It was fine
when the time came
to fetch their coats,
say thanks for coming,
stand at the door
and wave bye bye.
And it was fine, great, lovely,
when we closed the door,
hugged, kissed, smiled;
when we limped back into the lounge;
when we sighed; when we sat down.
