Climber's Reward

This was one full day. First was the Friday hike to a place called La Cumbre. We began at an altitude of more than 8,000 ft. (2450 m.) and hiked through forests of tall, straight pines to this summit of over 10,000 ft. (3050 m.) You can see that the view was worth every tired muscle.

After arriving home I took a quick shower and went to a wonderful Christmas party at the Learning Center where I teach English. The students had made a turkey and brought bowls upon bowls of delicious Mexican dishes. The rest of us brought desserts. The students had also prepared videos of their activities throughout the year.

Event #3 was an urban art creation at the Gorila Galería. There is a giant piece of glass in the courtyard, and periodically it is cleaned off and a new urban artist is invited to express himself with spray paint. It was quite fascinating to watch him choose from 20 plus colors of spray paints and create a thought-provoking religious commentary from the wrong side of the glass. The art openings and events in this small gallery are no calm wine and veggie events - but rather excellent rock music and the beer and mezcal flows. Fun and interesting people always attend.

Fortunately the Gorila Galería is in the building where I live, so when I had had enough of this day, I could easily escape to my bed!
