Scrabbling for position...

Tonight, I was babysitting for two of my favourite people, Sadie and Logan.

Firstly, I was treated to a karate demonstration (if only proper martial arts competitions were carried out by competitors wearing onesies!) and then we moved on to a game of Scrabble, the rules of which were slightly different to the ones I'm used to.

For starters, we were allowed to choose the letters we wanted. And as many as we wanted.

Then, you could place your word wherever you wanted. Really...anywhere. Nobody seemed too worried if you didn't actually incorporate a letter from a word already on the board - apparently, that's so last year.  According to the children,  you just plonk your word wherever it looks best. So, for example, if you wanted to join the word banana onto the end of squirrel, then why on earth not? It made perfect sense to them (and, worryingly, to me too after a while!)

And as for your word actually being a word.....no problem. You could put down any combination of letters, in any order you fancied, as long as  - and here's the good bit - you made up a definition that the other players were happy with!

Finally, when it came to scoring - well,  that was quite free and easy too. If you didn't like your actual score, you just doubled it and added ten. Or whatever number came into your head.

Funnily enough, I didn't win.....
