At home: Delicate....
A christmas cactus. A show off. I imagine the colourful South American habitat, the complex diversity of insects that were intended for this flower.
I remember my Grandma living in a tall victorian house, with one of those tall lean to wooden framed conservatories. Some of the panes of glass were green. With high shelving, I remember the bright pink flowers standing out against the green glass. There were so many. I was only perhaps 6 years old. So perhaps the shelves were not really as tall as I remember. Perhaps I was small.
I remember her also having a 'cast iron' plant. I don't have one now, but perhaps I might find one again. The huge leaves in the darkened hall way. I wonder how it coped with so little light. But then, I wonder how it is that a South American cactus copes on a cold british windowsill in winter!
