Joy to the World
We finally had a warmer windless night to go see the Christmas light displays at Bentleyville. We had an early dinner at Grandma's in Canal Park, met Kevin and Mary at the Chocolate Factory (where Monte bought a lot of fudge), then walked over to the display. It was great! Even better than last year, I think. The Christmas tree you see is the tallest man made tree in the U. S. If I remember correctly around 245 ft tall. They put on a music and light show where the trees strobes and lights up in different colors in time to the music. It's free, donations only, and they have free cookies, hot chocolate, popcorn, and marshmallows that you can roast over a raised metal firepit. There are several of the firepits in a couple of locations for warming yourself by too. And, of course, there's a Santa Claus for the children.
It was originated by a farmer in Esko which is just outside of Duluth. It got so popular it was moved a few years ago to the Waterfront Park near downtown Duluth and is now put on by the city with many donations from businesses, individuals and many volunteers.
