The other India

Reports for the economic changes in India say that the rich are getting richer and the poor are staying the same so the divide between the two is becoming even greater. Some of the richest people in the world live in India some rich by legal means and many by illegal means. The Chief Minister in Tamil Nadu - Jayalatlithaa has been found to have kilos and kilos of gold and thousands of silk sarees all believed to have been acquired illegally and all have been confiscated. Tamil Nadu police had in a raid on Jayalalithaa seized 1,165 kg of silver, 23 kg of gold, 750 pairs of shoes, 10,500 sarees, 91 watches and other items — numbering up to 469 on a list of material objects!

However there are good stories. One of the richest men - a multi millionaire Kochouseph Chittilappilli is working to make a difference. He donated one of his kidneys to a poor man in one of the villages on the condition that someone else from the village donates theirs to someone who needs it and for that chain to continue.. It was this mans wife who then donated her kidney to someone else. What a remarkable chain to set in motion.

India - a land of stark contrasts.

My son took his exam but was disappointed that he didn't improve on the result he got when he took it in New Zealand. That result was good but I think he feels it has to be outstanding to get the placement he would so dearly love. A Mothers instinct never changes. I would so dearly love to just be able to kiss him and make it better!
