Succulents

For a change from a single garden plant I felt it would be interesting today to show a clump of succulents in our garden. The main bush in the centre is a Tree aeonium (Aeonium arboreum and cvs.) It can grow up to half a metre tall and loves to spread.

This species features two of the hottest varieties in the modern succulent world. The deep burgundy to black ‘Zwartkop’ which is pictured, makes a powerful contrast against light green or yellow plants.

Closer view.

Over time, tree aeoniums develops a thick trunk and may branch into sizable sub-shrubs that produce long, cone-shaped stems of vivid yellow flowers, which stand out brilliantly against the black fleshy leaves. Something to look forward to.
