Robin in the fog

The fog was quite thin when I awoke to make tea this morning and looked out over the Golden Valley behind the house. But by the time I had fed Bomble and brought a cuppa to Woodpeckers the whole valley had filled with dense fog. I think it had slid down the hillsides from the commons above the valleys which tend to thicken first. But all the time the sun could be seen outlined through the fog and provided a lovely back light.

I ate breakfast and then couldn't resist getting my camera to film the mass of birds at the feeders again. I had thought I would wait to take pictures until I drove to Nailsworth later in the morning as I would be crossing the common where I imagined the lighting would be interesting. But I continued snapping away even after Helena went off to work.

When I did go to drop off Helena's potions at the clinic in Nailsworth the light had changed as the sun must have risen higher in the sky and the effect of the lighting wasn't as pronounced. So I didn't manage to get any good pictures there. Thus my robin perched on the corner of our cabin in the garden will see the light of a blip day.

I nearly posted a different image of the robin grabbing a sunflower seed outside the back door, with its wings outstretched as it tried to hover rather inelegantly. I have put it in my Flickr gallery of birds.
