Victorian Lego
Last week I brought poet John Glenday to the sheds to begin our project together, tentatively titled 'Fidelity'. We are producing a book of double exposures (35mm film, double exposed in camera - nae photoshop!) coupled with poetry, a form developed by poet Jo Bell and I this year.
We walked and talked while I sermonised about the archaeological and architectural significance of details within what appears to all intents and purposes to be a big brick shed.
One such detail is that there are numbers on the cast iron and these are part of the iron, not tacked on later on. I'll talk more about this another day but the clue is in the fact that the iron is cast in a mould - this is a selection of repeated and numbered parts, a great glorious skeleton kit of iron. Beautiful.
