Meadowbank Trees

The day dawned with clear cloudless skies. The early light was lovely once the sun crept over the hills to the east of the Taylor River. I love the very tall pine trees on Meadowbank Station. They look as if they have been there for a very long time. Sheltered from strong winds, they have remained standing tall over the years. I like the lacy pattern they form against the gold of the hills behind. In processing this image I found the power lines were far more visible than usual. However I think they add interest to this rural scene. See the bands of bright shining steel around the top of the posts? They are there to prevent possums from climbing up and interrupting the power supply by getting electrocuted. Not that I mind possums departing this mortal coil in such a manner as we have far too many of the little furry beasts. Possums are a great pest here and have caused outbreaks of tuberculosis in stock and they have decimated native bush in some areas. I was somewhat amused to discover possums are protected in Australia. Where they came from in the first place! Perhaps we should consider exporting them back to where they belong……
