Desert Squirrel

Before the rain

It was supposed to rain this morning, but I didn't quite believe it. We walked up the hill as usual, under dark clouds that didn't look especially threatening. We had only been home for a short while when there were a few spots, followed by light rain, and then a heavy shower or two. It cleared as predicted around lunch time, so a welcome drop, but not as much as the garden would have appreciated.

These boulders are at the top of the Britten Reserve. Unfortunately some of them, judged potentially dangerous to something or other below, were blown apart post earthquake. Now the unsightly shattered bits of rock are scattered around making it more difficult to compose an attractive image. The slope up here is relatively gentle, so hard to imagine the boulders going far.
