The Luminaries in Hokitika

Coudn't resist a detour to Hokitika, a small town on the West Coast of New Zealand that's the setting for The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton. Her novel - set during the gold rush days of 1865 - won the Man Booker Prize earlier this year and is proudly displayed in Hokitika's bookshop.

Also paid a visit to the National Kiwi Centre in Hokitika. The name's a bit of a swizz, they only have two Kiwis, but seeing one of these endangered birds was worth the spare tire we got soon afterwards.
