A Bygone Age
This is Barlow's Herbalist, Standish Street, Burnley. Established 1882.
I went into this shop in 1971 - after we had gone over to decimal currency. I was amazed when the old guy behind the counter gave me the price in 'old' money i.e. Pounds, shillings and pence.
He said he had been using old money all his life and wasn't going to change now :-)
I suspect he is now in that great big herbalist in the sky. The new owner has embraced decimalisation - but the shop hasn't changed. It looks just as I remember it.
You can buy such delights as Slippery Elm and many other mysterious products within it's doors.
I apologise the blip isn't as sharp as it should be, but It was hand-held without flash.
