"A bit uppy downy" he said!

These were the words of our highly trained, professional and skilful Captain at dinner last night. This was a nice way if saying we are sailing into one hell of a storm so be prepared! He wasn't kidding either!!
Although we docked at the Lofoten Islands we were advised to only disembark if absolutely necessary, so we turned down their kind offer and turned in for the night. If I never spend another night being thrown every which way, it will be too soon!! Nothing could have prepared me for the amazing natural forces at work in this part of the world, nor of my admiration of the people who live and work here.
This morning it is calmer but grey and overcast, the scenery is stark and monotone, the wind on the top deck took my breath away as I took this photo and I wasn't staying outside for longer than necessary. I had to smile as I came inside as there is a small band of hardened smokers puffing away on the outside deck where it is freezing and wet, nothing it would seem would separate them from their nicotine fix!
Later today we move nearer to the Arctic circle and gradually the daylight will increase but only minimally. This photo was taken at midday, it will be dark by 2pm.
Here's to a quieter night tonight!
