Sam Summers Hut

Our walk today took us over the hill to Queenstown, and to 12 Mile Creek.  One of the best walks that our walking group does.  Today the weather was perfect, the track in excellent order, and great company.  Here is a bit of the history of the hut.

Built in 1930 as a shelter against the brutal weather experienced as the miners sluiced for gold in this area.

This hut has been regularly repaired and maintained for the last 80 years.

Sam Summers and his brothers mined here during the Depression years in NZ.
It was a wonderful day out, finishing with an ice cream at Arrowtown.
